When God wanted to share his love with us, He chose to become human, just like us. As Jesus shared the good news of God's love with humanity, He challenged us to become just like Him in our love for God and one another.
The six week journey of Lent that brings us to Easter, is an invitation to become just like Jesus. Join us as Pastor Karl teaches about shaping our lives around the image of God's love found in the life and teachings of Jesus.
WHY "THE SHACK?"
Over the last year, “The Shack” has generated a lot of media attention. You may have even asked yourself, “What’s all the hype about?” People who have read the book seem to either love it or hate it. Some dive into its unique portrayal of the trinity: God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit; others identify with the great sadness experienced by the book’s main character, Mack; and still others have a difficult time getting past the tragic story line of the first two chapters.
Beyond the controversy, what “The Shack” has done is get people to talk about God! Perhaps this is where its value lies; and that’s what we are going to talk about for four weeks, beginning January 3rd.
WHAT CAN I LEARN FROM THIS SERIES?
You don’t have to read the book, and if you have, you don’t need to have loved it to get something out of these sermons. Pastor Karl will be using this book as a tool to talk about who God is in our lives, how Jesus helps to build that relationship, and what we can do to strengthen that bond. We hope you’ll join us for this new series!

Advent Conspiracy: This Christmas Could Be Different
Instead of getting caught up in the commercialism of the holiday, what would happen if we focused on what is really important? Imagine if we all decided that this year we would worship fully, spend less, give more, and love all!
Over the next four weeks, you will be challenged to look at Christmas differently. In fact, we want you to look at Christmas as it was, a gift given by God to save the world.
Join us in the advent conspiracy as together we learn to worship fully, spend less, give more, and love all.
In a world where everything seems complicated, wouldn’t it be nice if something were simple? At Newport Center United Methodist Church, we believe that Jesus knew what simple looked like. In fact, he took all of the complex religious laws of his day (which totaled 613!) and summed them up in just two commands:
“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.” This is the greatest and first commandment. And a second is like it: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
-Matthew 22:37-39
Simple and revolutionary!
This is the way we believe Jesus has called us to live, and our church vision captures this calling. As a church we want to be place where people can connect with Jesus, each other and the world. In this "Making the Connection" series, we explore our church’s vision and look forward to the year ahead.
